Class Handouts

If there is a handout that you may have lost during the course of living life, you can access most class handouts by going into the classroom website. Links to that website can be found on the main page of this site. Handouts will be listed on the calendar on the day that they were assigned. I will not print any extras for you. If you miss a day or you lose your handouts, you are expected to print new ones off yourself if a paper copy is necessary. Additional resources will also be published on the classroom site. If you don’t find them useful - keep it to yourself so you don’t hurt my feelings. If you do find something useful - tell others about it so that they can benefit. Have a suggestion for something you would like to see?

Mythology

iEnglish

Unlike many other English classes, in my classes we will be using a lot of technology. We will be keeping a website, a blog, writing on a wiki, using online discussion boards, keeping an online portfolio, creating podcasts, word processing, using online concept mapping programs, creating and editing videos, and other technologies as appropriate. Please keep in mind that this is an English class though and we will be utilizing these tools in order to COMMUNICATE information to others in a variety of ways. We will not be using technology for technology’s sake and any absences you may incur when a tool is introduced will put you at a disadvantage. You will need to ask your classmates to help you or come in for individual help after school. For those without access to a computer at home, many of the other students in class will have a computer. Computers are available before, after school, and during lunch at the school, and you can schedule time at a public library if all other options are not suitable. Not having your own computer will not excuse you from completing work. If this will be too much of a burden, please work to have your schedule changed.

Technology

We will be addressing real world issues in this class. We will be applying the information learned in class to real world situations. This is hard work and you will need to be an active participant in these projects as they come about. Failure to do so will make passing this course difficult to say the least. Just as is in the real world, you may not always agree with the projects you are asked to work on, but when there has been a group decision to move forward you will need to provide the group with your expertise and unique skills. (For example: A previous class decided to adopt an African orphanage. Some students wanted to adopt a local orphanage but the majority of the class opted for the global take. All students were then expected to put their best effort into that project.) Irreconcilable conflicts can be addressed individually. I would encourage you to attempt to find the positives in situations you may not be excited about as this may happen to you at some point in your future while you are working.
