Synopsis
I’ve been teaching for four years. From a young age I wanted to be a teacher because I wanted to be able to change the course of events. Though the notion may be a little arrogant, I believe that one man/woman can change the future of the entire world, and I want that man to be me. I figure the best way to do that is by interacting with the future presidents, artists, engineers, actors, and other professionals who will go off to provide amazing contributions to the world. Since the only way that we are able to change the world in a meaningful way is through communication and collaboration I became an English teacher. I believe very strongly that what others have scribbled is valuable and that it is our job to figure out what they meant in that moment of inspiration when they bled through a pen onto the page. Hopefully our class discussions will illuminate and make relevant those scraps of knowledge passed down to us from those who came before.
I am also very interested in what it means to be a literate person in the 21st century. We have access to more information at will in a handheld device than people used to in their entire lives. It is still important to know information, but it is becoming increasingly important to learn how to manage information in a meaningful way. I want my students to look at the wealth of information at their fingertips in constructive ways.
TO MY STUDENTS: I want my you to look at information and then use your own minds to explain what the information means. Use your own mind to participate in the world around you. If you simply quote others without thinking for yourself, you limit your contribution to the world and I find that unacceptable. You all have fantastic thoughts and voices which I expect you to bring out in class and the world beyond.
The Teacher
My wife and I met in high school when we were in the Coronado orchestra together. It was not to be at that time though and I went to college at Arizona State University...until I ran out of money. We met again when I began attending UCCS in my junior year of college. I went to Australia for a study abroad and she followed me down under. When I returned home we were engaged and later married in Georgetown, CO.
In 2006 we were graced with our first daughter, Rhea. She was born on August 8th and was followed one month, two days, and one year later by Amaya. Kenna, our third daughter was born in April of 2009. That gives me three daughters under three at the time of this posting. If you wonder why I seem busy and tired, that’s the reason. Of course I am very happy taking care of my wife, three daughters, two dogs, and snake. There is nothing better than sitting around at home watching the antics of my daughters as I try to figure out how to get ketchup out of my work shirt...or pants...or carpet...or...and the list goes on.

I was the Varsity/Head Field Hockey Coach at Cheyenne Mountain High School (CMHS) for 10 years. This sport is one of my passions though. I represented the United States on the Under - 18 and Under - 21 junior national mens’ field hockey teams. That was back when I was a youngester - like you. With this team I traveled both domestically and to exotic locations like Barbados. It was a pretty sweet deal.
I started playing the sport in third grade, began coaching at the age of 12, and took on the varsity program at CMHS when I was 20. I grew the program to approx. 50 athletes at the high school level and an additional 15-20 in my junior high program. Because our districts share borders and my program is the closest in the area, D11 girls who would like to participate in my program may. If you would like information on how to get involved, email me.
This year I decided that it was time to hang up my coaching hat so that I could focus on teaching and my family. I have a great family as you will read about below.
