This site is principally aimed at people who might want to use the stuff I write - editors, publishers of different genres, and so on. But I guess to understand what I write it helps to know something of me - and in particular the passions, principles and prejudices that I bring to the work. And while I’m doing all of that, it seems a shame not to mention some of the amazing people who are important in my life - so it all gets personal too because in this business the personal and the professional are things that God has joined together and are really not up for being too easily separated.

So let’s just say something about the writing and then we can all move on to whatever part of the site seems to beckon.

From village hall to Albert Hall, from hymns in Sunday worship to satire on Radio Four, from counselling to dovetailing . . .

Some say I’m versatile - others that I have a short concentration-span. And I’ve a disturbing idea which is right.

In any event, if you want something written and it’s a field I know about, I can probably deliver the goods.

I blame my parents: open-minded in just about everything, they encouraged me to explore and I’ve never kicked the habit. And I’ve explored enough to be absolutely certain of . . . absolutely nothing. In fact I’m absolutely certain that I absolutely hate absolutism, which means that I can’t be absolutely anything about absolutely anything - but of course I’m not sure that that’s absolutely true.
