<title>Large thrust bearing surface on the left, skinny on the right.
I thought about how the thrust bearing works and the amount of force placed upon it during starting the car with the clutch pushed in and zero oil pressure. I will be removing the clutch pedal start override switch before starting my new engine for the first time! Think about it, everytime the clutch is pressed, the crank shaft is being pushed against that small area (while still spinning)...</title>

<title>On the left is the skinny thrust bearing found on 1990-2000 Miata engines. Larger thrust bearing from 2001-2005 Miata engines on the right. For what it is worth, the bearings come in four different sizes. I ordered the stock size which allowed a little too much endplay. We then ordered a set of of the next oversize up. Mazda color coded these bearings. One edge of the bearing (the tip of one of the ends) is dyed. Pink = stock, yellow = oversize 1.</title>
