I thought about how the thrust bearing works and the amount of force placed upon it during starting the car with the clutch pushed in and zero oil pressure. I will be removing the clutch pedal start override switch before starting my new engine for the first time! Larger thrust bearing from 2001-2005 Miata engines on the right. For what it is worth, the bearings come in four different sizes. I ordered the stock size which allowed a little too much endplay. We then ordered a set of of the next oversize up. Mazda color coded these bearings. One edge of the bearing (the tip of one of the ends) is dyed.
