Visit to ABT Machine

I bought a boat anchor and dropped it off to the machine shop a couple of weeks ago.  Before the anchor was an anchor, it was a short block from a 2002 Miata.  I wanted to use the main bearing support plate, oil pan, and crank shaft from a 2001+ Miata.  As it turns out, Leos at Expolines Auto, a Miata salvage yard in New Hampshire, had a short block from a flood-salvage car.  Since the bottom end is going to be rebuilt, I wasn’t too worried about the water & rust.  In hindsight I should have taken pictures of it before having it torn apart, but I didn’t.

Upon arriving to ABT Machine, Mike invited me in to show me how thing are progressing.  There was more rust than i expected, and the cylinder walls were pitted, but Mike thinks all of the parts I care about (block, MPSB, oil pan, and hopefully crank) will clean up nicely.

Mike had torn the block down, magnafluxed it, and cleaned up a few of the parts.
