The cylinders are now in the honing stage, and almost done at that.

As mentioned earlier, the honing process comes after boring.  Boring is used to remove large amounts of material, but it leaves a rough surface.  The honing process is almost like polishing.  A very small amount of material is used but the finished surface is very smooth.  I learned today that there is indeed such a thing as ‘too smooth”.  Seems that everything in live, including smoothing cylinder walls, is best in moderation.
