Maruha Power Clutch System

I was torn on clutch selection.  I was very interested in the 949Racing dual-clutch setup, but could not get one soon enough.  I spoke with 949 a few times and was told that unfortunately the units would not be ready to ship until after I needed it, so that was out.

I have a Fidanza aluminum flywheel for a 1.6 car and considered matching it up to a 1.6 pressure plate and clutch.  While I was knee-deep in reviewing clutch options, my buddy Gordon talked me into going with a one piece chromoly flywheel for this particular engine.  I also talked about it with Les at Apex Automotive.  Les had been pushing me in the direction of the 949Racing clutch, and agreed about a single piece of chromoly being a better flywheel choice.

I emailed Saiji about their clutch setup.  I was impressed with the level of detail, development, and testing reported on the Maruha website.  The follow-up I received from Saiji was even more helpful.

The Maruha setup is reasonably light but not the lightest option, nor does it center the mass nearly as much as the 949racing clutch.  That said it should be much easier to drive on/off the trailer and in the paddock.  Pedal pressure is also just about the same as stock, which is a big plus in my mind.  The entire kit is made by ATS to Maruha’s specifications, and ATS makes some quality stuff.  The kit is also held together by bolts, not rivets, and can  have individual parts replaced or changed as necessary.
