Maruha Motors Racing Camshafts

Thursday, October 1, 2009

After much debate and considerable review of other options (webcam, integral, Motorola Cup cams), we decided to go with the Maruha’s racing camshafts.  Saiji was again great to deal with and gave me some helpful information about the various cam (basically three different durations).  Dana Johnson at Import Machine is building my head.  He thought the specs of the Maruha cams looked good, so I went for them.  Unfortunately, a cam card is not included, but Saiji did give me some helpful setup information.  We’re only looking for a ballpark to start from during assembly.  Cam gear and tuning will all be done on a load-bearing dyno as soon as the engine is complete and installed.

The head is apart right now, so I’m going to take the opportunity to have the cams measured on a cam doctor.  The cam doctor will measure the full profile of the cam, print out a nice graph showing lift and velocity, and provide all of the information normally found on a cam card EXCEPT the recommended setup.

As mentioned earlier, the exhaust cam is backordered and should HOPEFULLY ship early next week.
