STAMOSPHERE . . .  _______________ contact: williamstamos@mac.com No one creates in a vacuum. There are influences, histories, connections, references, and links from all things past to all things present... I have been fascinated by the power and possibilities of visual art since my early childhood, and have been painting and drawing since then. As a child attending the Greek Orthodox Church, I was exposed to strange and mysterious icon paintings, sculpture, and stained glass windows, seen through the haze of burning incense. I was further entranced by an "art appreciation" program in elementary school, which, aside from exposing me to “the masters”, introduced me to the idea (at a very young age) that making art was a serious, exciting, and even noble pursuit. Through the years, my deep interest in art-making and art history has grown. Additional interests in science, philosophy, spirituality, and mysticism give my work much of it's content and context... Whether making paintings, drawings, or videos, my process of working is intuitive and trance-like; I will often "lose" myself and "find" myself at the same time. My belief is that art has the potential to transform both the artist and the viewer, through a "transcendental alchemy", towards a heightened awareness of the universe and our place in it - a "cosmic connection" which gives our lives added depth and meaning. mailto:williamstamos@mac.comshapeimage_1_link_0
