Team arrives to wonderful welcome at Calcutta Racket Club

After a lengthy journey taking us outside Kolkata and arriving near the airport, we finally arrived at the Chowdhury Guest House at 11pm last night.  All of us wanted to grab some much needed sleep.  I slept only an hour the night before and traveling the Bangladesh/India roads are more like a day spent at a circus.

This morning we met up with local squash legend and current National Coach, Mr. Dalip Tripathi, who is residing Coach at the club.  He has produced current players such as World #32 Saurav Ghosal and World Junior Champion Ramit Tandon (whom we will be playing).  I met him briefly in Chennai last year and know of his prowess on the squash court.

Dalip has been as gracious as ever and we are now practicing twice a day on the glass courts.  Amazingly, these courts are 20 years old, but due to regular maintenance, they feel and look relatively new.  The uncharacteristic traction and court environment with very large gallery, have only excited the players more.

So, for now, I’m off to the court, and I hope to find some means of communicating with you all what is happening here.

Stay tuned.
