Winton Yuichiro White
combines groove-oriented music along with
long wasted hours of playing video games
to fuel and form his musical voice. Winton began his studies in music at age 11 with piano lessons, later branching off to tuba, trombone, bass guitar and singing. Being influenced by orchestral video game music and classical records, Winton wrote a wind ensemble piece when he was 17, which won an award and was on the Yokosuka Newspaper. He pursued to study tuba at university, still keeping up playing bass in jazz, funk and hip-hop combos. Music composition would be on hold until the middle his undergraduate studies.
During his time in Los Angeles, Winton had experience playing tuba with the Idylllwild Arts Academy Orchestra where he worked under the baton of Ransom Wilson, the Orquesta Sinfonica UANL in Monterrey Mexico accompanying the 3 Tenors, and performed in Canada, Hong Kong, Hoi-Ping China and Romania with the Biola Brass Quintet. In San Francisco he performed with the San Francisco Conservatory’s New Music Ensemble. He was also active as a vocalist performing at the Crystal Cathedral and the Jay Leno Tonight Show.
Winton is currently taking time off from school after receiving his M.M. in Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has had performances of his work, writing for fellow musicians in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Japan and France. Also active as a performer, Winton is a freelance vocalist (countertenor) in the San Francisco Bay Area singing for Grace Cathedral, St. Paul’s Episocopal and the San Francisco Choral Artists singing Medieval, Baroque and Contemporary Music.
