Chapter Meeting
The first ever Chapter meeting of the Anglican Communion Network - New England Convocation was held at the Anglican Church of the Apostles in Coventry, Rhode Island on Saturday February 24th. Timothy was well represented by Aare Ilves, Kathy Carpenter, Marnie Keator+, Dwight and Toni MacPherson and Ann and Bill Hogan.
The day began with Morning Prayer including an exceptional sermon by Mark Galloway+. Mark spoke of the life of John Wesley and his tireless devotion to bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to thousands in spite of church disputes and politics. He summed by saying that that should be our mission as well, in spite of what's going on in TEC, the ACN, the Anglican Communion etc.
A council of presbyters was presented: Dean Bill Murdoch+, Bishop Andrew Fairfield, Christopher Leighton+, Jurgen Llias+, Jack Potter+ and Mark Galloway+.
Daryl Fenton+, chief operating officer at the ACN headquarters in Pittsburgh gave a report on the Primates meeting at Dar Es Salaam and answered questions.
Lance Giuffrida+ of Attleboro, gave a report on the results to date of the hostile actions by the Diocese of Massachusetts which evicted them from their church property.
Greetings were delivered to the assembly from bishops in Africa, the bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church and the bishop of Forward in Faith North America - all demonstrating that "we are in on canoe and paddling together.
The four work groups then made recommendations: Vision, Mission and Core Values of ACN-NE; Governance and Positions; Program and Calendar; and the ACN-NEC budget. All recommendations were approved by acclamation.
Details will be available on the ACN-NE web site eventually I assume.
The day ended with a celebration of the Lord's supper.
Wonderful fellowship was enjoyed by all.
