The Jeffrey Pine on Sentinel Dome, 1998 This tree stood until an unnamed tourist pulled it down three summers ago. Drought during the 1970s killed the tree, but it stood over 25 years, anchored only by the dense wood and an anchor root planted only inches into the scalp of Sentinel Dome. I don’t buy the NPS line that wind knocked the tree over - I lived in Oakhurst at the time, and there was no significant wind or storm that day.
