I guess I didn’t want to jinx anything. But they’ve started to slip in the past few days anyway. They still have an excellent chance at the wild card, but I’m pretty sure the East Division is now out of reach. I’m hoping the Bravos prove me wrong.

At the time they seemed to have that extra something a team needs to win the tough games. As of late, they don’t seem to be very competitive in very many games at all. I guess this is the Braves rebuilding, but I’d hope we’d be seeing some promising moments that would give us hope that there is a turnaround in the Atlanta Braves future. Is it time for Cox to move on? I’m thinking yes.

So, I’m man enough to say that maybe I was wrong about this trade not being enough. Chipper is on a tear. Chipper is ripping up pitching. He’s been amazing over the past three games.

But it’s really been the pitching that’s been playing with heart. After Moylan stubbled last night it was amazing to see our guys gut it out till the 15th inning to gain the win.

Go Bravos!

The Braves made some key moves to strengthen the line-up with acquiring McLouth, who I wasn’t exactly familiar with before the trade, and also open up a spot for a young pitcher to take the number five starting position on the team.

McLouth appears to bring some much needed power and speed to the team, but from looking at his numbers he doesn’t appear to be a lead off threat. So, he moves into the 3rd spot in the lineup with Chipper hitting clean up (or at least that’s what we saw in McLouth’s first game with the Braves). I’d rather have the guy batting .315 hitting before the guy who is hitting .250 with some power, but what do I know. We could still use McCann behind McLouth to make sure McLouth gets good pitches. Ultimately, we need a speed guy who can hit .300+ leading off. I like Kelly Johnson, but he’s just not that guy. Johnson should be hitting 7th or 8th in this line-up.

Moving Glavine was a good move, but poorly executed. Other potential signees might see how they’ve treated Glavine, a long time Brave, and wonder if this is really a place they want to play. I was glad that they signed Glavine going into the year. He could have served as a 4th or 5th starter and brought some leadership to the team. But I don’t think we knew how little we would get out of him (we’re already a quarter of the way through the season). So, the Braves cut their loses and I’m hoping that Hanson might turn out better than Reyes.

Getting swept after winning two series is sort of like taking nine steps forward and then taking four steps back. Maybe Lowe can get things back on track tonight against Arizona. Maybe.
