I was born on a cold winter day in a small town in Southern Minnesota. The town, Owatonna, derived its name from an Indian Princess who was brought to the area by her chieftan father to be healed by the curative water of the town's Mineral Springs. Mineral Springs Park is one of several parks in the city and features the statue of Princess Owatonna.
There are two structures in Owatonna which are nationally known for their architecture. The high school from which I graduated is one and the other is the Norwest Bank building, designed by Louis Sullivan in 1908. The bank building was commemorated on a U.S. postage stamp issued in 1981.
After high school graduation, I attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Shortly thereafter, I married and moved to St. Paul.
In preparation for a career in education, I attended the University of Minnesota where I received my bachelors degree. Soon after graduating, my husband and I along with our four young children moved to California. I continued my schooling at the University of Southern California, completing a masters program in Elementary School Administration. Additional post-graduate studies were completed at LaVerne University. My work in education took place almost entirely in Southern California where I served as a teacher, an elementary school principal and in many other areas of school district administration.
In the early 70's my husband and I took advantage of an opportunity to work in Saudia Arabia for the ARAMCO (Arabian American Oil Company) Schools. During our stay in Saudia Arabia, I served as a Language Arts Curriculum Consultant for the teachers in the ARAMCO Schools. Needless to say, living in the Middle East was an interesting and unforgettable experience.
I returned to school administration in Southern California after completing the assignment in the Middle East. In the four years following retirement from the public schools, I taught in the Teacher Education Department at California State University, Fullerton.
Since full retirement, my interests have included working with computers (i.e.,developing web sites, converting LP's to CD's, converting 8mm and 16 mm movies to DVD's); active memberships in the Oceanside Mac Users Group (OMUG), the Vista Friends and Newcomers Club (VFNC), and an International Single Seniors Computer Group (OSSO)
