Anthony Michael Peterson(stage name Tru) began playing guitar at the age of 12. At 13, he received a scholarship to the St. Louis Conservatory of Music. He began teaching at the age of 14. Tru entered the Berklee College of Music in Boston MA, earning a degree and becoming one of the youngest members of the faculty a year after graduation.

After three years on the faculty at Berklee, he left Boston and moved to Brooklyn, New York. While in New York, he became a member of the Black Rock Coalition, which led to alliances with such cutting edge musicians as Vernon Reid and Michelle Ndegeocello. At the same time, he began working in the New York jazz scene with such artists as Oliver Lake and Ronald Shannon Jackson.

During this period Anthony began teaching privately and honing his craft as a songwriter, placing songs for producer Andre Harrell on Atlantic Records, and director Spike Lee for Columbia records.

While working in New York, he became involved with performing and recording projects with Peter Gabriel, Joan Baez, Janis Ian, and Cassandra Wilson. These alliances took him all over the world, on television and on various recordings.

From having experiences with teachers such as these, Anthony absorbed many lessons in the nuances of crafting a song and placing it within the listener's ear and heart.

The music on his debut cd, "I'm Not Through Dreaming" is a subtle yet powerful juxtaposition of acoustic folk, r&b, and rock influences that create a world of sonic longing and reflection. Tru's lyrics take the listener on a journey to that place of inner secrets that we sometimes visit, but rarely stay. This music is haunting, yet intimate, reminiscent of Seal and James Taylor.
