Music educator and trumpet player Jesse Mathews began his musical studies at the age of nine. Since his first piano lesson, Jesse knew that music was his passion and education was his calling. Since then, he has perseveringly pursued that dream. He is a band director and an active performer around the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a member of the San Jose Wind Symphony and the Tribal Blues Band and has performed with numerous other local and non-local orchestras and ensembles.
Last December, Mr. Mathews traveled to Chicago to perform with the San Jose Wind Symphony at the annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. Prior to joining the SJWS, he was principal trumpet of the Eastern New Mexico University Wind Symphony. He also played in the New Mexico Intercollegiate Honor Band and the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) National Intercollegiate Band, both of which he was the principal trumpet.
Raised in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Mr. Mathews holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree (Instrumental K-12) from Eastern New Mexico University. His approach to teaching emphasizes developing and reinforcing good habits. Every student deserves the opportunity to succeed in music and Mr. Mathews is here to provide that opportunity. No student gets by him without impeccable rhythm, great tone, superb style, and an elevated sense of confidence and accomplishment.
