National Library Week ’09
National Library Week is a yearly celebration of America’s libraries and librarians. When was the last time you checked out an item from our wonderful local public library, the Belvedere-Tiburon Public Library?
Now more than ever, the resources and services that our public (and private) libraries provide are critical to maintain. Many libraries across the nation are seeing an increase in patron use, as recent out-of-work jobseekers need access to digital services and resume help. Libraries are adapting their services to help support users during this economic downturn by focusing on career training for staff.
Our school will be on break during National Library Week, but how can your family celebrate at home? First, by always going to your local library for that latest and greatest next book to read. Did you know that libraries want to be as relevant to you as your local book store? The library’s Reader’s Advisory committee is eager to hear of upcoming book requests that you may want to read.
If you’ve got some gift cards at book stores, consider purchasing books on the library’s Wish List for donation. Next, read up on any library legislation that may need public support. Often times, libraries work with communities first to fulfill local resource needs and to promote passage of public ballots.
