Qingdao Clipper returns home

Monday, 18 February 2008

On 16th February,  Qingdao Olympic marina witnessed another big welcome. The first boat to enter the marina was Western Australia. The skipper said that the Chinese seas they had been sailing in have been a challenge but one worth while.

Western Australia was followed by Nova Scotia, Jamaica, Hull and Humber, Singapore and Liverpool. Hull and Humber, skippered by Danny Watson, who was the skipper of the first Qingdao Clipper, was welcomed as a returning hero. He said: "Thanks for such a wonderful and colorful reception. It's great to see friends from two years ago. Happy Chinese New Year. Wish Qingdao wonderful Olympics. I'm sure it will be a fantastic year."

Qingdao Clipper was welcomed at the Qingdao Olympic Marina early on 17th Feb. Crowds of people gathered to see the returning of the Qingdao Clipper for the second time, this time lead by the skipper Marcus Cholerton-Brown. He thanked everyone for the amazing welcome and said he hadn't experienced anything like that before and all the crew are looking forward to visiting Qingdao and have some cold Qingdao beers. The welcome for the 3 chinese crew who joined in Singapore was particularly warm. Xin Min Yan, a journalist from Beijing, Steven Gao, a Qingdao bar owner and passionate sailor and Du Fei, an ex-Ynling sailor were welcomed as returning heroes. They were surrounded by numerous journalists and spectators eager to learn about their adventures at sea.
