Clipper Ventures is pleased to announce that China-based Hexagon Metrology is onboard as the Official Port Sponsor for the Clipper fleet's Qingdao stopover in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race.

Hexagon Measurement Technologies (HMT) is the world's leading supplier of precision industrial metrology products, and is made up of two groups: Hexagon Metrology and Leica Geosystems. Hexagon Metrology’s products range from hand gauges to coordinate measuring machines and robots, from advanced metrology software to integrated systems for quality assurance. Leica Geosystems’s dedicated focus on the macro segment involves the measurement of mountains, cities, roads, tunnels, bridges, and other construction projects. HMT is active globally, with ten factories and 47 other sales and support locations worldwide. The Qingdao facility serves as the regional management centre for China.

President Li Hongquan is eager for the opportunity to be involved in an international event whose values so closely parallel those of his own organisation. The ten boats of the Clipper fleet are scheduled to arrive in Qingdao 45 days after leaving Fremantle, Australia on 1 January 2008, and will be berthed at the state-of-the-art Olympic Sailing Center, widely considered the world's most advanced sailing venue, for the duration of the visit. Anticipated activities include sailing competitions and goodwill events with local personalities in the Sailing City, which will host the Olympic Sailing Regatta during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Hexagon is eager to provide the Clipper crews and Clipper staff with a rich experience of Qingdao, a city whose cultural landscape was shaped by European administration in the 19th Century and more recently by the frenzied pace of sailing developments.

Clipper Ventures Race Director, Joff Bailey, was delighted to hear the news that Hexagon Measurement Technologies had come onboard as a race sponsor.  “We are all looking forward to the Qingdao stopover in February next year,” said Joff.  “I am certain that it will be a visit to remember and we look forward to building on the foundations of this new relationship.”

The yachts will depart from Qingdao on 24 February to cross the Pacific Ocean, arriving in Santa Cruz, USA by way of Hawaii. From Santa Cruz they will continue on to Jamaica, New York and Nova Scotia. The 35,000 mile circumnavigation will be completed after a final ocean passage across the Atlantic to Liverpool in the UK as it celebrates its status as the European Capital of Culture 2008.

克利伯船队的10艘帆船计划2008年1月1日离开澳大利亚的弗里曼托尔，45天以后抵达青岛，帆船将停泊在具有先进水平的奥帆赛中心。普遍认为青岛的奥帆赛中心是世界上最先进的奥帆赛场馆。在船队访青期间，计划安排的活动包括在这个帆船之都举办帆船比赛，以及与当地有关人士举办友好活动。这里是2008年北京奥运会奥帆赛的举办地。海克斯康测量技术集团急切希望能向克利伯船员和官员展示青岛的底蕴、丰富的历史和人文景观，随着帆船运动的在青岛的普及与深入人心，青岛的景观也在发生着日新月异的变化。

比赛帆船将于2月24日驶离青岛横穿太平洋，途经夏威夷抵达美国的圣克鲁兹。然后离开圣克鲁兹继续驶往牙买加、纽约以及诺瓦斯科西亚。35,000英里的环球航行最后穿越大西洋抵达英国的利物浦后就宣告结束。成为2008年欧洲文化之都，利物浦倾城庆祝。
