The end of an adventure
The end of an adventure
Thursday, 17 April 2008
It’s been two months since I left Qingdao to join the crew of the Qingdao Clipper and race across the Pacific. Now my adventure is coming to an end. After another 300 miles, I'll be able to safely say I’ve crossed the biggest ocean in the world. It feels like such an achievement. During these two months I have learned a lot about ocean racing, I’ve met some great people and visited interesting places along the way, and most of all I have learned a lot about myself and the things that matter to me. It’s been a great journey of discovery. I will miss sailing, racing and everyone I have met. But it’s time to get back to reality. It will be quite strange not to be bounced around in my bunk every time I try to get some sleep, and to be able to eat whatever I please. I've learned to appreciate being able to choose to stay indoors when there is a storm outside… My respect goes to all those who have dared to take on this adventure and especially those who are going all the way around the world. This is the best way in which one can discover the world and at the same time learn more about human nature. The slogan of the race is very well suited: ‘The adventure of a life time’!
