What makes the great songs tick? Do they still write 'em like they used to? In a show specially produced for the London Jazz Festival, and presented by pianists Neal Richardson and Alex Webb, some of the UK's greatest vocal talents explore the mysteries of songwriting. Delving into the revered song catalogues of the past and memories of the pop songs they grew up with, they discuss the works that have influenced them most and sing some of their own originals. The video clip below is from the 2008 London Jazz Festival Performance...

Ian Shaw has been voted the BBC Jazz Awards best vocalist and is also a pianist and songwriter - as well as Charlotte Church's record producer.

Nicola Emmanuelle was recently praised in Jazzwise for "the remarkable power of her voice" and has been responsible for an acclaimed tribute show for Ella Fitzgerald.

Tammy Weis' vocals prompted Michael Buble to say, "Now there's a real vocalist!"  The Canadian singer/songwriter is a Ronnie Scott's regular and a rising star of the London scene.

Sue Richardson, a trumpeter, singer and songwriter tipped as a rising talent for 2008 in Jazzwise, opened the 2007 London Jazz Festival at the Albert Hall.
