The Moore Baseball ‘Stangs finished off the 2008 season with a heart-breaking 2-1 loss to Whitefield Academy in the first round of the 27th District Tournament. As was the goal all season, the Mustangs played their best game in the tournament. In fact, Whitefield Academy surprised many people in the 7th region tournament, losing to traditional power Eastern 2-0, who came into the game ranked number seven in the state and boasting a 31-3 record.
There were many positives to this past season, none more promising than the fact that six freshmen started or played major roles for our team. Nick Shutters played third base and pitched; Blayde Hester played shortstop and second base, while also pitching; Evan Gray started the season as our catcher before moving to the infield; Terrance McCage finished the year as the starting left fielder; Anthony Steer finished at third and right field; and Jalen Miller started all season in center field, leading the team by hitting .419 and earning All-District honors.
Of course the Mustangs would have done none of this without the leadership of their three seniors, James Schneider, Jimmy Roberts, and Scott Armstrong. These three young men provided the type of leadership and attitudes that all coaches desire out of their players. James and Scott earned All-District honors, Scott played in the East-West All-Star game, and Jimmy and James earned scholarships to the University of Louisville for academics and band. Both plan on attending The Speed School of Engineering, and we wish all three of these young men the best in their futures.
Coaches Gentry and Baker are excited about the upcoming year and trying to improve on last season’s 6 wins. The Mustangs were one of only a handful of teams that were not shut out in a game for the entire season! This major accomplishment will provide plenty of motivation for the upcoming season and begin us on our journey to establishing Moore Baseball as a contender in the tough 7th region on a yearly basis.
See you on the field!

Coach Gentry and Coach Baker
