To some, Easter is a pagan holiday that Christians are naive to celebrate. We don't even know, for sure, what the word "easter" means. To others, it is a secular holiday steeped in fantasy. Others still, don't know what it is and don't care — a mystery of history. To most Christians, though, whatever else it might be it is the day we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus the Christ. But what of the symbols we use to celebrate it? Where did they really come from? And if they are pagan as many believe, what does that say about the early church that adopted them without question?
This study suggests some startling answers by questioning some of the myths of the contemporary Church and explores the meaning of the historical symbols of the day by viewing the Early Church in its original context — Judaism — and the mystery of the Seder.
