Corner is a video that presents a position of voyeurism that exposes a relationship between home and ego that borders on identity. The space of the bedroom speaks to Bachelard’s poetics’ of the house being as much cosmic as it is human, at once dreamy and rational. The title places attention on a space where two boundaries meet as well as a position from which escape is difficult.

Ceiling is a video that investigates issues of perception through the understanding of attention and consciousness in waking and non-waking states. It constructs a space that implies a process of signification concerned with physical, mental and social interpretation. The camera scans a bedroom with a sleeping figure, shifting the viewer’s attention back and forth between the object of the room and subject/object of the figure. The motion of the camera and its moments of oscillating focus articulate the act of producing, which points to a certain abstract universality that is neither a fragment nor a whole.

As-you-like-it ist ein umfangreiches Video Installation mit dem Es ist inspiriert von Kurt Weil und Bertolt Brechts Gemeinschaftsarbeit Die Sieben Todsünden. Brechts Verwendung der amerikanischen Landschaft als Ort der Sünde ist ein interessanter aspect für einen Interkulturellen Kontakt zweichen die USA und Deutchland. Troztdem erweitere ich die Handlung auf eine globale Erzählung. Mit der Verwendung von Elementen der Brecht Ballett-Oper in meiner Arbeit, untersuche ich die ambivalente Psyche unseres heutigen Zustands. Ich interessiere mich für die sich standig verlagernde Aufmerksamkeit in der heutigen High-Speed-Informations-und Kommunikationsgesellschaft. Die Charaktere von Anna I und II zeigen eine Spaltung des Einzelnen, ein Bewusstsein, dass in viele Richtungen gezogen wird. Anna symbolisiert das dekonstruktierte Selbst. Ihre ultimative Überlebensfahigkeit hängt aber von ihrer Ganzeinheit ab. Das Video zeigt dem Betrachter eine Vielzahl von Haltungen und Einstellungen, statt (inside) in an einer bestimmten Position zu verharren. Es ist wichtig dass das Stück, Fragen aufgibt anstatt, Antworten, zu geben, und dass der Betrachter Platz für Projektionen bekommt und einen eigenen Standpunkt entwickelt.

As-you-like-it is a large-scale video installation inspired by Kurt Weil and Bertolt Brecht’s collaborative work Die Sieben Todsünden. I find Brecht’s use of the American landscape to house expressions of sin an interesting point for cross-cultural contact between the U.S. and Germany, but will expand the plot to a more global narrative. By utilizing elements of Brecht’s ballet-opera, I will produce a work that explores the ambivalent psyche of our contemporary condition. I am interested in how one’s attention is continuously shifting in today’s high-speed information and communication society. The characters of Anna I and II indicate a split of the individual, a consciousness that is pulled in many directions. Anna symbolizes the deconstructed self, whose ultimate survival depends on becoming whole. This work is meant to articulate a variety of postures and attitudes to the viewer, rather then adhere to one particular position. It is important that the piece poses questions rather then give answers, and that the viewer is given a space to project their own point of view.
