We’ve been here in Buford almost a month now, and are feeling a little more settled. School starts next Monday, and Robyn will be doing a long-term sub job in a 3rd grade classroom. Woohoo for work!

Road Trip to our new home!

We left sunny Southern CA on Tuesday morning, July 7, and arrived in Buford, GA on Saturday, July 11. Our trip took us over the Hoover Dam, by the Grand Canyon, through Phoenix, New Mexico, Houston, New Orleans, and on to Georgia. Over the course of the five day drive, we were in nine states! It was an exciting and tiring journey, and we were glad to arrive in Buford. So far so good!

We celebrated Robyn’s graduation with a Master’s degree on May 9, 2009. It was a beautiful sunny day. Enjoy the photos!

Trip to Portland

We’ll be posting a full(er) report shortly on our trip, but wanted to thank everyone up in Portland for a wonderful time, and a great chance to see so many of you again. It was really nice.

2009 Update

I am NOT good at this blogging thing...but I’m trying:) Since my average time between updates is about 6 months, I’ll keep it to bulleted points!:)

- Blue Ember is still going strong. Keep us in mind for any design work and check out the website update! www.blue-ember.com. Steffan’s been able to expand his portfolio with different types of artwork...we’re very thankful!
- Loving our new pastor, Jeff Vines! Truly a Godsend and a gifted teacher. Free podcasts at www.ccvnow.com. He’ll knock your socks off!:)
- We were able to help the Benkoils paint the outside of their house this fall. Some volunteers from the church were there...a true gift and absolutely God’s love expressed through service.
- Tough class for me this year, but I am learning new things every day. No matter how many years you teach, there are always new and fresh challenges. Love my teaching team, an extremely talented bunch of women. Still getting used to our new principal, but that’s going well too.
- With Steffan working from home, we’ve had much more time to spend together and with friends. Went down to San Diego for Veteran’s Day, explored the USS Midway, went back to Sea World, and attended a Naturalization ceremony for US soldiers. Great time!
- Visited Catalina with the Benkoils in December. It’s very quiet in the winter, but was a perfect way to kick off the Christmas season.
- Spent a lovely and relaxing Christmas with the fam in Georgia.
- Flew back to CA on New Year’s Eve and drove straight up to Big Bear for another fun cabin New Year. What a great tradition!

Summer 2008

Wow, it’s been a busy summer! Obviously, given the amount of time since our last blog. Here are some highlights of what we’ve been up to.

-Steffan’s company, Blue Ember, is growing since its launch in January 2008.

-Robyn finished her third full year of teaching...time flies!
-Robyn has gone back to APU to finish a Master’s degree in Teaching. Will be completed Summer 2009.
-Robyn taught Kindergarten Summer School for the first and last time. God bless Kindergarten teachers.
-Steffan and Robyn flew to North Carolina for friend Melissa’s wedding...it was beautiful! The rehearsal dinner was fun too!
-Then they drove down to visit the fam in Georgia, celebrating their third wedding anniversary with a lovely family party.
-S and R took one more little vacation down to San Diego, saw friends, visited Balboa Park and Sea World, and had a lovely time together!
-Also spent time with friends hanging out, going to Disneyland, and generally enjoying ourselves.

San Francisco

It’s been a while since we’ve visited San Francisco, so we were glad for the opportunity to spend a little time there. We spent Saturday in the city and stayed the nights in Palo Alto. Though it pretty much never stopped raining, we had a wonderful time and still got to see a lot of sights!

Saturday began with friends Andrew and Sharon at the Farmer’s Market. We had a great lunch, enjoyed seeing the shops and booths, and got to catch up with friends we hadn’t seen in a while. Our afternoon was spent seeing more of the city. We drove around The Embarcadero, past Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Ghiradelli Square. We continued on to the Presidio, of course stopping at the Golden Gate Bridge. It was very stormy and foggy (as you can see from our many pictures) but there were still guys out there surfing! After that, we were on the hunt for the new ILM headquarters. We found it after much searching...it’s not clearly marked anywhere...very hush-hush. The campus is beautiful and still being moved into. After that, we headed through more of the city, down Lombard Street, and over to Coit Tower. San Francisco’s geography is truly amazing. I can’t believe this city stays so crowded when quarters are so tight. I could never live there, but it is interesting to see!

Snow in Los Angeles

Many of you have seen (or felt) the major storm on the West Coast. It’s put down a whole year’s worth of rain for LA in a matter of days. As you can see, it’s also made our low-lying, perpetually green hills look like they belong in Colorado. Surreal. Check out the rest of the pics by visiting our gallery!
