I just read Nikki Finn’s blog about the Oscars (She writes for the LA weekly) and she blasted it from head to toe. She also said that those commenting on her blog were in league with her opinion as well... I have checked other sites as well for reactions... most are negative or at best ok about last nights telecast.

I have to ask... what show where they (the detractors) watching? I though it was one of the best produced Oscars in a very, very long time. Sure it was imperfect... what live show is perfect? Or as my mother always said... “Nothing are perfect.”

No big surprises last night except perhaps best foreign picture. But the lack of surprises within the context of winning/losing is not the telecasts fault.

Was the show as funny as some of the past ones? No. Sure funny is great and last night had it’s share from the teaming of Fey-Martin to the Pineapple Express redux and some of the comments sprinkled throughout the night. But the oscars isn’t a roast nor a send-up. It needn’t be funny 24/7 it just needs to conduct it’s true business and entertain and at times surprise us.

Hugh Jackman did what any good host should do... didn’t stink-up the place or embarrass himself but kept things moving along as well as possible and knew when to get out of the way.

The best thing about last night? The actual production it’s self. The use of the staging, backdrops and original use of TV screens. Loved it! I also liked having past winners acknowledge the hopeful contenders.

What did I miss? Film clips of the actors doing what got them nominated.

Heck I even thought doing a medley of original score and even best song was a new and good idea. I’m sure had there really been a ‘great’ song that had already connected with radio etc we could have argued for a stand alone performance but all in all I liked they way the went this year.

I also liked the flash of images from this coming year running above the closing credits.

I could go on and on... but you get the drift. Sure there were issues like at the beginning when they were going to announce the best supporting actress bit and the curtains were not cooperating. And there was a directorial mistake at the beginning of the memorial tribute and another one when eddie was introducing jerry and the camera showed us he had already left his balcony... but it’s a live telecast dang nab it... stuff happens... and the show goes on.

I’m such a Homer when it comes to updating. I know alot of folks blog, use Myspace or Facebook. My daughter is a master at those social sites. I would even love to figure out a way to bank coin from blogging... yet the first step beyond blogging on something anyone would care about is of course updating enough that peeps would continue to come to your site let alone read it, link to it, digg it or place banners on it.

I’m sure though I would have plenty of time to do just that if they would just stop making movies and tv shows that I want/need to watch. Life just keeps getting into my way. Well that and of course my inherent laziness.

Well now that that is out of the way and I have finally accepted full responsibility for my lag-of-updating let us move on to more spectacular opinions and pontifications...

1.	We have a new Prez... whoop-de-#%$&ing-Do!!! More Action, Less Pretty words dude!

1.	My daughter (whom I share with my lovely wife) is turning 17. She is bright, beautiful, creative and most of all we are finally bonding on the real issues of the day i.e. movies!!! Good movies at that. I love to hear her opinions and the fact that she exhibits clear, concise opinions as well.

1.	I bemoan the fact that as of this date I still have not seen any of the 5 best pic nominees.

4. My 10 fave pics of ’08: In Bruges, Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder, Iron Man, Rocknrolla, Quantum of Solace, Burn After Reading, Nick and norah’s Infinite playlist, Street Kings, and Appaloosa.
Sure there’s The Mummy 3 (Blu-Ray rental for the scene with Li & Michelle Yeoh!) Midnight Meat train (which wins not only best title of the summer but the studio bozo award for the way it was released!) Sisterhood of the traveling pants (If it were about shoes and bags i could understand why women would want to see it.) Pineapple express (An off the tracks paranoid winner) Swing vote (Is costner playing a sport? No? Then cable at best) Tropic Thunder (Me wanna see bad), Clone Wars (sorry gang... I smell a snorefest here), Fly me to the moon in animated 3-D (Ah, no...Thanks anyways), Mirrors (Kiefer doing time before 24 heats up again), Vicky Christina Barcelona (Oh I’ve gotta woody), The Rocker (funny in a Rental kinda way), The Longshots (CABLE ONLY), Crossing Over (Solid Cast, Boring Movie), House Bunny (Funny Cable FLick), Death Race (Great Cast, Maybe good enough for a ticket purchase but most def a Blu-Ray rental!) Traitor (Not Ticket Buying worthy but again Most def a Blu-Ray rental), Disaster Movie (Yaa....NO!) Babylon A.D. (The vin is back but is it worth the price of diesel? It’s a shell game of wait and see.) My boxoffice wager is on Tropic thunder to win the august releases.

Well that’s it... we are then led into September and the fall days of hollywood’s best to come....

Well I for one can’t wait for November to roll around.... quantum of Solace beckons.....

(thoughts like opinions can be a dangerous tool in the wrong hands)

Faves at this moment in time now airing:

1.	lost (this show has really, really, really picked up it’s game)
2.	Boston legal (The most entertaining show on, and would have thunk it! Shattner can act!)
3.	30 rock (Thank god Alec Baldwin didn’t leave the USA for france like him promised when Bush was elected)
4.	my name is earl (4 words: jamie pressly as joy)
5.	desperate housewives (yeah like your not watching it either)

Faves that are coming back but not on now:

1.	Rescue me (this is one @#*&ed-up show and I love it)
2.	The Shield (It’s not the wire but it’s highly entertaining and involving)
3.	Pushing Daisies (Come on what’s not to luv ‘bout a show about pies and love and strangeness?)
4.	Dirty Sexy money (Now this is what a soap opera should be like)
5.	It’s always sunny in philadelphia (Absolute anarchy is the rule of the day here)
6.	misguided (Um, is it coming back? I know Mr. Demi Moore produced and all but it’s kinda really funny and sorta charming and it even had Rumer Willis guest starring once)

THe WHY is this still on?
CSI:Miami and NY, That dang Jim show with the other belushi, er, num3ers, ghost whisper, scrubs, super nanny, wife swap (No wait, scratch that, guilty pleasure), big brother and um mtv.
