Our Arabians

The arabian horse is an amazing creature. It’s love for and devotion to people is legendary. Though there are endless stories of arabian mares protecting their humans in battle and arabians stallions standing quietly while a toddler hangs on it’s leg or pulls it’s tail, I can only speak for the arabs in my life.

The mare, Zahara Shariah & her son, Legend of Khouraj,started our family on this “roller coaster” of a ride that we know as life with arabian horses. Shariah was one of the most intelligent animals I have ever known. When you looked into her eyes it seemed as if she could almost read your thoughts and as she “sized you up,” it nearly always felt as if you were just not “measuring up” to her expectations. She was sweet & cooperative but never “warm & fuzzy.” A proud, regal demeanor and elegant manner possessed her, every time she was led out of her stall. Even at the age of 25 she held her graceful, long neck in an arched position, head high, and strutted like she was the Champion at a National level competition! She was (and will always be) “the queen,” and she knew it!

Shariah’s son, Legend of Khouraj, is much like her. Always capable of carrying himself proudly as the show horse that he is, but more often just letting himself be himself, just “Legend.” As a young colt he was always into trouble. Extremely hot natured, he lived life as if “there is no tomorrow.” All who knew him had a running joke that it would be a miracle if he made it to the age of a grown stallion! But he adored each of us and it showed. He loved nothing more than to hang out with us, watching our every move.

Now, as a mature stallion,If anyone ever looses their balance or is brushed by a branch and falls off of his back, on the trail, he will stay nearby and just wait until they have collected themselves, and then stand patiently for the remount. His insatiable urge for adventure seems to satisfied by something as simple as taking one of his beloved humans for a ride up to the top of the mountain. No matter how many times he follows the same trail, he does so with equal, exuberant enthusiasm!

An affectionate stallion, he will let children (or anyone) sit on his back in the stall for hours. He also let’s his warm, winter buddy, Nike the barn cat, sleep on his back during the cold months. This can be extremely comical during feeding time when Legend will run back and forth in the stall as he anxiously awaits his delicious dinner of grain, while Nike digs his little cat paws in and hangs on for the ride!!!

Great stallions come from great mares. Although Zahara Shariah is gone now, her blood runs through the veins of all of our homebred arabians including our 3 beautiful stallions: Legend of Khouraj (Purebred Arabian son), Jaleel ABC (Straight Egyptian Arabian son) & Marciano ABC (Purebred Great-Grandson). Their beauty & quality are only surpassed by their temperaments. All 3 stallions have turnout time in the pasture with the expectant mares who keep them mannerly! Being with the herd helps them to be happy & content, the way a stallion should be!

Shariah also left us 2 beautiful daughters: Bint Shariah (Straight Egyptian mare) & Elizah ABC (Purebred Arabian mare). Though we miss her terribly, the “amazing” Shariah will always be a part of our lives in the legacy that she left behind.
