Dear Parents,

Students have now been introduced to Christopher Columbus from the perspective of a young ship’s boy, Pedro, traveling with Columbus and from the perspective of the Taino people, the natives Columbus first encountered.  Students will also be exposed to some primary resources in Columbus’s on words as well as the native American peoples encountered a bit later.  Due to our trip to Plimoth this Friday, we will jump ahead in history (just a bit) to bush up on our knowledge of why, when and how the Pilgrims came to Plimoth.  I do want to remind you that the trip is almost entirely outdoors, so students should dress accordingly.  Also, please help them pack enough food to last the entire day as we won’t be returning until 6:00 p.m.

The students are working hard on their State projects.  The maps that I have seen so far have been wonderful and creatively completed.  Just a reminder that the whole project is due on Monday and presentations will take place Monday afternoon.  I can’t wait to see all the creative and finished projects!

In addition to the field trip to Plimoth on Friday, a program entitled Eyes on Owls will be with us on Thursday.  During this program students will see live owls and learn some of their calls, they  amy see pellets and have the opportunity to observe them up close and personal.  Be sure to ask your child about this experience as I am sure it will be memorable!
