Most of you who visit this site are probably familiar with the famous Nat Pagle. If not, the you
will receive an introduction here. Nat Pagle is an “Extreme Angler.” You may be familiar with a few of his published works including Nat Pagle’s Guide to Extreme Anglin’, in which he chronicles the amazing things that can happen in a day of fishing including a run in with the famed Ashbringer. Nat Pagle is universally known in the World of Warcraft as the top fisherman. It is to him that we go to learn fishing over 225.
The first thing you’ll want to do after reaching 225 fishing is to head to Theramore. Take the boat from Menethil, or fly in from the west if you are Horde. Once in the area head to the island marked on the map above and look for the guy you see on the left. You’ve now met my in-game idol! I’m endeavoring to collect all of Nat Pagle’s “lost” gear.
Go ahead and pull up the quest that Nat has to give you and you’ll see this screen:
Unfortunately the character I used to grab this quest had already completed a separate quest about his measuring tape, but you see the ‘!’ there for the quest. Go ahead and click it.
So there you are. You simply need to head to Desolace, Feralas, Stranglethorn Vale, and Swamp of Sorrows and get fishing!
The quest is fairly simple but there are a few things you’ll want to grab before doing it. Make sure you have all your fishing gear! Grab some lures. If you can make Aquadynamic Fish Attractors those are perfect for this quest, if you want to pay for them buy them off the AH. I completed the quest using only Bight Baubles, so it’s perfectly feasible to do the quest with those. However, some of the areas require pretty high fishing, so it os recommended to take some lures with you so your catch chances go up.
There is actually a kind of pattern to make the quest go quicker. The 4 areas you fish in are relatively widespread, so if you plan on doing it all at once planning out your travel path is a good idea. Assuming you have an epic mount and are level 60 you can expect to complete the quest in 3 hours or less. Since you obtain the quest in Theramore the first place you’re going to go is Desolace.
The Sar’Theris Strand is located in
the South West portion of Desolace. Just south of Shadowprey village. You’ll notice that the actual name of Sar’Theris does not pop up when you mouse over this portion of the map. Apparently Nat Pagle knows locations that even our maps won’t display. Here you will catch the Sar’theris Striker. Cast away! Once you’ve caught your Striker mount up and start running south into Feralas (it
is faser to run). This is a bit of a run, so turn on some music and enjoy the view, you could try base jumping from the Twin Colossals to break the monotony.
Feralas is the highest level
area you will be traveling and as such has the highest Fishing skill requirements. Expect to spend more time here than in any of the other three areas. It took me about twenty-five minutes before it dropped, and I had 300 fishing after the lure. The river is really more like a lake since it doesn’t really empty into anything and there’s a waterfall that feeds it coming out of the mountains, quite odd really. The Eastern side of the river is relatively clear of roaming mobs, not to mention there are some nice looking outcroppings perfect for fishing. Grab your Ahi (non-tuna type) and mount up, head to Feathermoon. Catch the flightpath in Feathermoon and fly off to the Barrens. From there grab the boat to Stranglethorn Vale.
The Savage Coast of
Stranglethorn is annoyingly (for alliance) right in the middle of Stranglethorn Vale. So head north past the arena then head to the coast until you get to the Grom’Gol Base Camp. The coastline here is where you’ll catch the Blue Sailfin. The coastline right near Grom’Gol is devoid of mobs, so for all you lowbies it’s perfect. Once you’ve caught the Sailfin mount up and head north again, or alternatively you can return to your flight path and fly to Nethergaurd Keep, Stonard, or Darkshire. From there run to the Swamp of Sorrows.
Once inside just follow the mountains on
the Southern side until you get to the coastline. Watch for elite Dragonkin as there are some groups on a couple of the islands out there. The entire coastline of the Swamp of Sorrows is the Misty Reed Strand, so it doesn’t really matter where you end up you can still catch the Mahi there. Catching the Mahi completes Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme! Pop a hearthstone, or begin your run back to Nat Pagle for the turnin!
Well of course something was biting! Congratulations! After completing that quest you will now have a maximum bas fishing of 300. Get crackin’ cause it’s a long grind from 225 to 300 and beyond!
