This week it's time for a short and easy tutorial that shows you how you can merge a before and after image into one single image. And with before and after I mean before and after editing the image. Not photos from before and after the party. Though off course that would work in a similar fashion.

Selecting and extracting hair

One of the most difficult task of post-production is extracting a person from an image and put that person on a different background. Especially the hair is very difficult to select and extract.

The magic keyword here is is not the magic wand tool or the eraser tool. The only way of getting close to the perfect extraction of hair is with the help of a mask.

Droste images

The Droste effect is a specific kind of recursive picture, An image with the Droste effect shows a smaller version of itself in a place where a similar picture would realistically be expected to appear. This smaller version then has an even smaller version of itself in the same place, and so on.

Creating droste images is not that difficult and the technique is mainly based on duplicating the original layer and using the distortion transform tool.
