Supporting a Cause Dear to Our Hearts
This year, we are participating in the Walk Now for Autism campaign to raise funds for Autism Speaks. It’s a wonderful non-profit organization that helps family, schools, and communities who are affected by autism.
Roarke was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder in October of last year on our angel Olivia’s due date. It was a very rough and emotionally draining day for us. But despite everything, we were actually glad to have a concerns validated and given a name.
It is heartbreaking to hear that your child is not developing as they should. But the truly devastating part comes when you realize that you have to choose between necessities or getting your child the therapy that they need. The cost of therapy can be upwards of $45,000 or more a year. Even with insurance coverage, the monthly cost of therapy can be more than a mortgage payment. That’s a heavy burden to carry and no should have to make that choice.
Autism Speaks offers family resources, outreach programs, and grants to help with the overwhelming emotional and financial tolls of all things autism related. They have been a wealth of information for us and I love reading the stories of how Autism Speaks has changed the lives of many.
To date, Team For the Love of Roarke has raised over $400 and we won’t stop there. We would really like to raise at least $1000. I’m usually not the type to do fundraisers but this cause is extremely important to us. Not only our we taking donations but we have planned a bake sale and a garage sale for next month with all the proceeds going towards Walk Now for Autism.
If you would like to walk with us on November 6th, please sign up to join our team or if you can’t make it, please donate. You will be making a difference.
