Ron Pokrasso- instructor
Kerry Vander Meer- host and studio assistance
Studio 2112, Oakland, CA

Oct 24-25, 2009 (10am-5pm)

This two day weekend workshop is a crash course in Solarplate printmaking, a simple, environmentally friendly approach to intaglio without the use of traditional grounds, acids and heavy equipment. Participants may draw, paint, collage, photocopy, or use computer images to create a positive transparency. The image from the transparency is transferred under the sun to the UV sensitive Solarplate. The plate is developed with water and then printed.
The entire process is extremely simple and may be completed in a matter of minutes, but will keep you experimenting and discovering new ways to create images. The effects are equivalent to hard ground, soft ground, photogravure, even some traditional lithography techniques, but are more easily obtained.
Various inking, printing and registration techniques as well as the use of Akua water base ink will be discussed and additional demonstrations of monotype and chine collé/collage techniques will open the door to endless possibilities for mixed media projects.
If you work digitally bring some files on a CD or jump drive. There is a computer with Photoshop and a digital printer in the studio. You may also consider bringing your digital camera along with the USB cord to transfer to the computer.
The fee is $300 and includes all inks and general shop supplies. Transparency materials, 8x 10 Solarplates, and printing paper are available for purchase during the workshop. If you are interested in larger size plates they may be obtained through Dan Welden at www.solarplate.com.
Contact: Kerry Vander Meer, 510 325-7476, kerryv@pacbell.net
Visit: http://web.me.com/rodg/Oakland_Studio/Welcome.html
Ron Pokrasso has been an exhibiting mixed-media artist for more than 25 years.
