I remember my 10th birthday. It isn’t a particularly pleasant memory. I have the painful, vivid recollection of what a
B-R-A-T I was. It’s sad, but true. Ungrateful, rude and snotty. Welcome to double digits, Rochelle.
Happily, it would seem that my offspring have so far avoided that terrible personality trait I sported in 1982. This weekend, Jane hit the big 1-0. She was so sweet, lovely and gracious. We had such a great time. She opened presents in the morning and LOVED the giant horse Grace bought her. After presents, I took the girls to American Girl. It seems to be the location of preference for Jane’s birthday. She didn’t notice the poor service at the restaurant or the thick crowds in the store. She just thought everything was wonderful and everyone was so nice. And really, that store is every girl’s dream. Even on a Saturday during Christmas season.
That night, Jane had 4 friends over. They danced, ate Pei Wei, played games and watched a movie. They laughed so hard and had a great time. They totally included Grace, who is 4 years younger. PRETTY sure that wouldn’t have happened on my 10th birthday. But remember, I was a stinker and thankfully, enough of Greg’s DNA has leaked into my children that they have more gracious traits than I.
But, lest you think it’s a bed of roses around here as per these last two posts... This is our Thanksgiving vacation so far: Two blow-out diapers, more than one attack on Derick from Ethan, two slivers in two hands, and one pair of broken glasses ala Grace. She was mad. So she broke them IN HALF! Yes, they may sport some daddy, but there’s still some Rochelle itching to rear it’s ugly head once in a while.
