Typical Lazy Sunday Afternoon--After lunch, Jonathan was still feeling the effects of his lingering cold and went to lay down for what turned out to be a 2+ hour nap. Bethany crawled up in my lap and fell asleep, but I couldn’t put her down to bed because the children were running from one end of the house to the other playing house. After about 45 minutes I realized they had gotten quiet (I realized it mainly because I hadn’t reminded them in a while to be quiet with Daddy sleeping).

I discovered Philip had orchestrated a makeshift band. I was pretty impressed with myself--I didn’t flip when I found out that he had taken rice to make a maraca. I just reminded him he’d be picking up every grain of rice if it came apart. I didn’t yell when he told me he used weed eater line for the guitar strings. I was quiet until he explained that they were loose lines that were laying around in the shed. And I kept my cool when dinner was ready but the children wanted to perform right then for us. The result of everything was the precious video above. I’m really glad I decided to bite my tongue for a couple of hours.

For reference--Michael’s on the drums, Isabelle is playing the guitar, Benjamin’s got the maraca, Philip has the bongo, and Nathan’s playing his hands. Bethany’s looking on for moral support.

That’s right--they have me teaching institute this fall. I’m kind of excited and really intimidated. Anyway, I was gone all day to Tallahassee. When I came back, all the children rushed to see me and tell me about their day.

After about 15 minutes, I realized that Benjamin wasn’t around. He’s always the first to come give me a hug when I get home. So the search started for Benjamin. We went all over looking for him, in the garage, in the bathroom, down the hall. We even found evidence that he’d been in our bedroom--papers and other things were all over our bedroom floor.

It had been several minutes and I was really starting to get worried. Then from our bedroom we heard Nathan calling, “I found him.” He had curled up in Bethany’s old car seat behind a chair and fallen asleep. Oh for the peace of children.

Jonathan called last night from where Philip and he have been spending the week at scout camp in Florida. He related the following story about Philip.

Jonathan just happened to be at the pool area when Philip got there for his swimming merit badge class. Jonathan saw him place his stuff on a table and get in line to shower before getting in the pool. He noticed Philip had neglected to remove his hat and realized Philip would have to get out of line to take it back to the table. Philip got closer and closer to the shower hut, still not realizing that he was wearing his hat. Jonathan watched him enter the shower hut. A few seconds later Philip was out of the hut, wet hat still on his head, making a bee line for the table where he deposited the hat. Philip then returned to the hut, showered off and proceeded to class. We LOVE Philip. :D

Dog chases Cat--Bethany chases vacuum

I needed to vacuum the front room today and since the other children were occupied rolling our Lightening McQueen car between them, I thought I take advantage of the situation. But Bethany has learned to climb stairs, and, as soon as she heard the vacuum, she came to investigate. All the other children would sit and watch the vacuum go back and forth, and she would, too, until today. Today, with mouth open wide ready to give a kiss, she followed the light on the vacuum around the room. I literally had to vacuum in circles to get her to move so I could cover all the area on the carpet. Bethany got all tangled up in the cord but managed to extricate herself from it without incident. I guess she wore herself out, because dinner came next. Within 2 minutes of placing her in her high chair, I turned around and found her asleep.
