Marine Ecology and Ecosystem-Based Management
Marine Ecology and Ecosystem-Based Management
Rebecca Goldman Martone
I am a marine ecologist with a focus in interdisciplinary approaches to ecosystem-based management. My past and current research interests center on social-ecological systems in diverse marine and coastal settings. I strive to make my ecological research relevant to society and to inform solutions necessary for healthy and resilient ecosystems that provide for human well-being.
My research integrates aspects of community and population ecology, including trophic interactions, ecosystem productivity, biodiversity, and demographic variability. Recent projects have focused on kelp forests in British Columbia, California and Baja California. In addition, I am interested in human-caused changes to marine ecosystems and consequences for ecosystem-service provisioning.
I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate with Kai Chan in the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. I recently completed my PhD at Stanford University under the supervision of Fiorenza Micheli.
