Went 4x4 with one of my classmates on Saturday.  He has an old beat up truck for it.  We were going along nicely when we came to a swamp.  Decided to try to get through it.  Bad idea.  The water was pretty high to begin with (it was coming in around our feet) when we hit a hole and the front end nosed down so that water was over the tip of the hood.  We were unable to drive it out.  Forward or reverse.  So we stopped the engine before we damaged it ... to much.  By this point water was almost onto the seat and we couldn't open the doors.  We had to climb out the windows.  While I was doing this my camera fell out of my pocket into the swamp.  ug.  We were mid thigh deep in (very cold) water and almost 0 degree weather.  I was able to get the camera out by plunging my arm in up to the shoulder.  cold.  Hopefully it will work again, once I clean out all the muck.  We then went about trying to free the truck.  Using rope and come-alongs we tried to winch it out (standing knee deep in water) for 45 minutes.  To no avail.  By this point is was getting late and was going to get dark soon.  So we packed it up and started the 1.5 hour hike out to the highway.  Made it just in time.  Then had to hike a short distance to the local mall to call for a pickup.  We were sitting in the food court muddy up to our hips and looking like we had just emerged from a swamp (which we had) to wait for a ride.

We went back in yesterday evening with a friend's jeep.  Now there are two trucks stuck in the swamp ... just kidding.  The jeep didn't get stuck.  But we weren't able to get the original truck out.  We are going to put our brains together, come up with some ideas and try again later this week.  Or just get more power.
