FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Iowa Gardener’s Travel Guide published on December 8, 2008
Award-winning author and noted horticulturist Kelly Norris released his first book on December, 2008. The book is published by Culicidae Press, LLC of Ames, Iowa.
The Iowa Gardener’s Travel Guide is a cumulative directory to Iowa’s gardening establishments, including retail garden centers, nurseries, greenhouses and public gardens. The first of its kind, the guide assembles contact information and unbiased commentary for 106 of Iowa’s retail horticultural establishments. The commentary explores fascinating tidbits about businesses like Holub Garden and Greenhouses whose contribution to the national distribution of New Guinea impatiens is unknown to many. Additionally, personal facts about the owners give insight into the passion behind each operation. Some have even ventured an answer to that oft-asked question “what is your favorite plant? Additional abbreviated listings for 147 locations are also included. For traveling gardeners in search of the latest perennial or the best-grown tomato start, the guide is an essential and must-have resource.
The book is divided into five geographic regions. Each of the four quadrants (Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast), as delineated by the Interstate 35 and Interstate 80 transection of the state, are included as well as a fifth region from the heart of the state (Central). This convenient division will allow readers to coordinate traveling arrangements easily and efficiently.
Kelly Norris is a plantsman that gardens at his family’s Rainbow Iris Farm in Bedford, Iowa. He has lectured throughout the Midwest and travels regularly collecting plants and touring gardens. Graduating with honors from Iowa State University in December, Kelly is widely considered a rising star in American horticulture and is at work on another book about the passionate stories of Iowa gardeners.
