Joe Harrington, son of Mike and Sally Harrington - Acton, attended Boys State in Sacramento during the last week of June, 2008.

About 950 boys from all over California traveled to Sacramento State where they created city, county and state mock governments during the week. Harrington to was a county supervisor.

"Assemblywoman Sharon Runner was an excellent hostess. I've heard a lot of horror stories

about going to the Capitol and visiting when the people that represent you just shake your hand

for five seconds, take a picture and walk away. She actually took the time and asked us if we had

any questions and she actually gave us cupcakes," he laughs. "She was really cool."

"At Boys' State when you visit the Capitol you aren't supposed to use the elevators to clog up

the traffic but Mrs. Runner took us on the private elevator and when the doors opened there was

a counselor from Boys' State there and he asked us for our badges, you know like we were really

busted, but Mrs. Runner immediately said 'They're with me' and the guy totally  backed off right

away."
