The Museion is in the midst of a transition, which is good news. A bigger, better MuseionCast, Volume 3, is slated to begin later this year, and the museionart.com news blog will be moving to WordPress. If all goes according to design, the transition will be seamless and the results a fews steps up. More frequent blog posts as well as regularly scheduled podcasts with an expanded mandate.

And just what is the MuseionArt mandate? I’ll get into that soon, but not now.

For now, three announcements:

1.) Most of all new posts will be made at the new WordPress blog: http://nfpendleton.wordpress.com. You can check there for updates until the Museion makes the transition. Currently, I’m running MuseionCast Spotlights, which feature either a Volume 1 or Volume 2 audio story from the archives.

2.) You can get all blog, MuseionNews, and personal updates - as well as a bunch of other nonsense - directly from me on Twitter @ nfpendleton.

3.) And finally, for the first time, you can download (at your leisure) back episodes of the MuseionCast podcast from the Internet Archive.

VOLUME 1 IS HERE.
VOLUME 2 IS HERE.

That’s it for now. Thanks.

nfp

School’s back in session, the wife and I are hip-deep into DEXTER Season 2, and I’ve got audio news coming out of my ears. Let’s get to it.

1.) Voice Actor, New Audio Drama: STARGAZERS, Episode 1. Written and directed by Laura Frechette and Gwen Jensen-Woodard. This is a light Medieval drama about a blind female smith whose fate intersects with that of the royal family. Great voice acting and well produced. I play Prince Stephen’s guard Ethan. I think he sort of comes off as a metrosexual in chainmail...but in a good way.

2.) Cover Artist, Season Three of Pendant Audio’s THE KINGERY.
Sort of a sci-fi cross of Vegas with some Sopranos thrown in.
I take over the monthly cover art chores with Episode 4.

3.) Last but absolutely not least, MUSEIONCAST VOLUME 3 IS
COMING TO INTERNET RADIO. The podcast will be going to a
regular bi-weekly format starting later this autumn with an
expanded format and artistic mandate. Look for more stories,
music, sound sculptural INTRUSIONS, and even some poetry.
Details to come closer to the relaunch date.

That’s it for now. Check back often. Thanks.

nfp

Well, it has been a busy summer so far, so not a whole lot of recording, editing, drawing, or blogging going on right now. What have I been doing instead of podcasting?

1.) I’m currently working on a fiction writing project, the details of which I’ll reveal later in the year. Just know this: The project was killing me for a few weeks, but now I’m fine. I’ve got some notes and I’m finally ready to sit down and commit something to paper. This will postpone my plans to release my novel, but don’t worry. This project is MUCH more exciting. Stay tuned.
2.) I’ve been absorbed in a series of graphic novels, and I’m officially a junky. I’m finally on book 7 of the SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING. I think as of now there are only 9 books. The book I’m currently reading, Earth To Earth, marks the end of Alan Moore’s run on the title, and the artistic team of Vietch/Alcala does most of the heavy lifting after a spectacular run by Totleben/Bissette. I bought the first book of this series all the way back in 1989(?) at the Chicago Comicon (Now Wizard World Con) on the recommendation of a n00b comic book penciller by the name of Phil Hester (yes, that Phil Hester). I’ve read the book a few times since, and finally got the itch two months ago to read the rest of the series. And here we are. When Swampy’s exhausted, I’ll be digging into The Sandman series.
3.) My wife and I have been watching the entire run of the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series, season by season, boxed set by boxed set. We are currently eagerly awaiting the release of the final set, Season 4.5. When we’ve finished with BSG, we’re going to plunge headlong into Dexter.
4.) I turned 36 two months ago.
5.) My marriage turns 11 years old in one week. I’ve learned that this is the “Steel Anniversary.”
6.) I have an iPhone now, which makes me extremely lazy and has rendered by desktop computer almost obsolete.

To make up for the long hiatus, I’m going to be feeding MuseionCasts again. This week, a NEW STORY. In the next weeks, I’ll be re-feeding the old stories from last year, starting at the beginning. The reason I’m doing this is because of the feed change thing. I want to make all the stories available on the same feed. I’m also hoping to upload all of my stories to the Internet Archive for easy retrieval.

One last thing. I said earlier in the year that I was recording parts for some audio dramas. Some of them have yet to be released, and some of the series were actually cancelled. But one piece is finally available: IMAGINATION LANE’S first episode of A NIGHT AT THE BALLET: LE CORSAIRE.

I gave my all as the scurvy pirate Birbanto.

Yes, that’s me. I used Patchy “Tom Kinney” the Pirate
from Spongebob Squarepants as my inspiration.

Please don’t tell Alexa Chipman.

nfp

The ‘Cast is back. Finally. I was sort of leery about bringing this story to audio, but I leave it for you to decide how the final product came out.

This one is inspired by a number of both humorous and tragic true stories I’d heard around the time of my own wedding. It wasn’t until 2003 that the ideas brewing in my head found form in this short story. And now I’ve dusted it off for your listening pleasure.

nfp

A few design changes are in the works. Let me know if the navigation is wonky.

You should notice that I have a “Friends of...” along the side. Please check these out - you’ll find anything from free audio dramas to awesome books for reasonable prices.

You can now contact me via email at nfpendleton@yahoo.com . This link is also available on the About NP page. I’ve also enabled comments on the blog, and I’ll be integrating the “personal” blog with this MuseionNews blog, so all things N.Pendleton will be updated in this one place.

New MuseionCasts are forthcoming. I’m recording some lines for an audio serial this week, but then I’ll be back to my own work. I’ve found that auditioning for parts has become a minor addition of mine, and I just had to break the habit. I’ve got other things to accomplish this year, including new stories, new audio, and a novel.

Aside from the streams on the MuseionCast page, I’ll also be adding MP3 archives of all audio files, for easy download and one-stop consumption.

In this same vein, I’ll be making the files and artwork for the MuseionCast Year One Project (See Boxed Sets for further details) available for FREE download. And if you’re interested in this set as an art object, some of my short-run and rapidly depleting supply of 4 CD tins will be made available for purchase. So there’s that to look forward to.

nfp

Earlier in the year, I said that there would be fewer MuseionCast feeds due to various other audio projects in the works. This week I’m happy to announce the arrival of just one of those other projects: Imagination Lane’s historical bio-drama, “Tom Crean: Sailor On Ice.” It recounts the exploits of the men who explored Antarctica during the “Age of Discovery.”

This past winter, I was lucky enough to land the roll of Bill Lashly, one of the heroes of the Terra Nova Expedition. My character doesn’t appear until later episodes, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start from the beginning. The writing, pacing, music and post production on this project are all top notch. Special thanks to director Alexa Chipman for allowing me to participate in one of her brilliant audio plays.

You can download the episodes directly from Imagination Lane, or subscribe through iTunes.

EPISODE 1:
Featuring the voice talents of:
Tom Crean - David Maciver
Frazier - David Ault
Mary Crean - April Sadowski
Taff Evans - Ronnie Rowlands
Frank Wild - Stevie K. Farnaby
Captain Robert Scott - Clive Saunders
Ernest Shackleton - Brian Bedard
Misc Sailors - Nick Cook, Stevie K. Farnaby, Dave Frizzell, Bill Hollweg, Martin Lejeune, David Reid, Anthony Rooney, Scott M. Sandridge, Capt. John Tadrzak, Seán Paul Teeling
Music by:
April Sadowski and Kevin MacLeod
Imagination Lane theme by Nate Torres

And as for original MuseionCast stories...they’re in the works. I’m currently writing and audio-producing one story, and I’m writing two others. Along with the audio feeds, I’ll be struggling through another draft of my novel. Progress and audio excerpts of this as well, as the year continues to unfold.

Thanks,

nfp

Well, I switched my website host from .Mac to MobileMe and it looks like one of the side effects is that my podcast feed has ended. I’ve re-submitted the MuseionCast to iTunes with the new feed address, so if you’ve subscribed through iTunes, it looks like you’ll have to go back and re-subscribe when the new feed has been announced.

Anyway, you should be downloading right from here anyway. Go on over to the MUSEIONCAST page and download the latest feed: NPendleton, live at MuseionHaus.

thanks,

nfp

To celebrate the release of his new book (and to put off my own writing even longer), I’m extremely happy to present this story on MuseionCast.

Christian Dumais is an American living and working in Poland. He’s a sharp dresser, has a beautiful wife, and owns a dog with a cool name. You can find his book of stories, EMPTY ROOMS LONELY COUNTRIES, at Amazon.com. Look it up by title or author and you will find it. And you’ll be glad you did, seriously.

This year’s feed has started with a trickle and will continue that way for a while, with one or two casts per month. But things will pick up in May, and I may go back to weekly releases. The reason for the delays is that I’ve managed to land some roles in a few audio plays currently in production. I won’t say what they are right now, but as these are released I’ll be tying them into the MuseionCast.

Right now, though, enjoy “Geneva Street.” If you like it, buy the book. And don’t forget to give MuseionCast an iTunes vote and review, and remember to Digg the podcast often.

Thanks,

nfp

I found out through the grapevine that an old friend’s first book of short stories is finally available to the public for relative chump change.

I know you’ve heard this pitch before, but you really need to read these stories. Christian Dumais is working new magic in a familiar territory, something I can only call a form of gonzo memoir. This is better than fiction.

If you don’t want to buy it just because I say you’ll love and treasure it, then here’s a special message directly from the author:

“If you send an email to emptyroomslonelycountries at gmail.com, I’ll send you a free PDF copy of one of the stories from EMPTY ROOMS LONELY COUNTRIES as an incentive to buy the book. Simply title the email “SAMPLE” and your free story will be sent to you.”
Free samples to get you to buy the whole package. A damn good deal.

If you’re already sold on a copy or ten, go directly to Amazon.com and just buy it already. I’m ordering mine on payday, Friday.

This ties in with the forthcoming February MusieonCast, “Geneva Street” - a story by the book’s author, dramatized for audio, performed and produced by yours truly.

nfp
