Well what can I tell you about Frinton? Famous for it’s Railway crossing. It is thought the gates are the only way into Frinton but of course this is not true. It is also thought that you have to be living inside these gates to actually live in Frinton but the boundaries of Frinton stretch much further than “the gates.”
Still lt is these Railway gates that seems to have put Frinton on the map.
Frinton tries very hard to maintain it’s character in an ever changing world, it’s main street Connaught Avenue has sometimes been called the Bond Street of Essex.
Frinton has become a retirement town but does now have a chip shop despite attempts to stop it and now the fight against the opening of a pub is over as Frintons first pub opened it’s doors on 13th September 2000.
Frinton now has a new fight on it’s hands to try and keep
“ the gates “ from being replaced by an automatic barrier. This has certainly had a very high profile even having a controversial program screened on mainstream television WONDERLAND THE CURIOUS WORLD OF FRINTON ( I can’t believe that any locals have not seen this program but if you haven’t feel free to email me. ) Even this program was featured on Harry Hills Tv Show ( see link below to watch)
UPDATE !! WORK HAS NOW BEGUN AND THE FAMOUS GATES HAVE BEEN REMOVED SOON TO BE REPLACED BY THE AUTOMATIC BARRIERS... BUT I DON’T THINK WE HAVE SEEN THE LAST OF THE GATES. RUMOUR HAS IT THAT THEY HAVE BEEN WRAPPED IN COTTON WOOL AWAITING A NEW ORNAMENTAL HOME.
Frinton does have various Hotels and Restaurants. About 2 miles from Frinton on sea is the more traditional town of Walton on naze and another seaside resort Clacton on sea is about 8 miles away.
