You probably know it by now - GimmeSomeTune stopped fetching lyrics. Yeah, great.

Here’s the message the lyricwiki.org guys push through to anyone trying to access their lyrics via API (which GimmeSomeTune uses / has been using):
“Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions from some of the major music publishers we can no longer return lyrics through the LyricWiki API (where this application gets some or all of its lyrics).

The lyrics for this song can be found at the following URL:
http://lyricwiki.org/<Artist>:<Song>

(Please note: this is not the fault of the developer who created this application, but is a restriction imposed by the music publishers themselves.)”.

Thank you to everyone who sent this in.

Now, obviously, this will be addressed in the re-write of GimmeSomeTune.
If you’re wondering if there’s going to be an update for the current version before I release the re-write - it doesn’t look like it. I know, it sucks.
The reason behind this, though, is time. I don’t have a lot of “free” time on my hands to work on all the projects I have going right now as it is. My daytime job 3-4 times a week takes up a lot of time, too.

GimmeSomeTune actually comes with more than one lyrics source. The problem, however, lies therein that GimmeSomeTune thinks the message from the guys of lyricwiki.org is the actual lyric and doesn’t query the other lyrics sources.
I’ll see what I can do. If I have some spare time tomorrow, I might even be able to resolve this and put out an update.

Paying for services like gracenote is definitely out of the question - I’d love to do it, but it’s not going to happen (it’s quite expensive) ;)

I’ll just say it out straight - I’ll keep going until they shut down GimmeSomeTune!

Take care!

Since, apparently, you’re all eagerly waiting on the all-new version of GimmeSomeTune, here’s a little status update to tide you over.

What is this new GimmeSomeTune?
It is a complete rewrite of what you currently know as GimmeSomeTune. That means it’s going to be more performant, more stable and certainly more pleasant to look at.

How long will it take to get this finished?
To tell you the truth, I haven’t written any code for it yet.
Here are some rationalisations as to why:
a)	flickery. Currently, all my free time goes into making flickery better and better.
b)	Design. I’m in the stages of planning GimmeSomeTune’s overall design, feel and look.
c)	Features. Obviously, most of the current features will be available in this new version. But there are some new things I’d like to do as well.
Basically, I don’t want to get myself into the same situation twice and rush into things. GimmeSomeTune was my first project and frankly, it shows. Planning is the key.

So, what’s this new GimmeSomeTune going to look like?
It’s going to be all new. Take a look at the current preferences window. It does quite a good job of representing the look of the code as well as the stability: It’s overloaded, clumsy and in some ways ugly and not intuitive. This is all going to be a thing of the past.

What’s that I hear about new features?
Who told you that? No, seriously. Before I start writing new features, I want to make sure the current ones (lyrics- and coverart-fetching) work like a charm and get an overhaul. I can’t stand that with every new version of iTunes, GimmeSomeTune has trouble working.

Is there any timeframe at all you can give us?
I’m afraid no. I guess it will be ready around the end of the year. Maybe a little sooner. With all the things I’ve got going at the moment, it’s really hard to tell.

Will GimmeSomeTune remain donationware?
I can’t say anything about that at the moment. Should I decide to make it shareware, people who donated certainly will be compensated for that. However, I haven’t made my mind up about that, yet.

I hope I could clear up some things about this - if you have any more questions, just comment here.

Thank you for your time,
Take care!
