Mr. Gavin Bartlett joined Cornwall Hip Foundation earlier this year and has recently returned from a 6 week Fellowship in the USA. He has been learning advanced techniques of pelvic and acetabular fracture fixation and also fitted in a visit with one of the leading hip arthroscopy surgeons in the world. We look forward to learning from this experience over the forthcoming months.
Nikki Fuller gains place on specialist training course.
Nikki is a senior theatre nurse who has been assisting in theatre (and stitching many of your wounds extremely accurately) as well as assisting with reviewing post-operative patients to assess the results of your hip surgery. We are delighted that Nikki has gained a place on the advanced care practitioner course meaning that she will now be progressively trained to actually undertake surgical procedures independently.
WELCOME
For 3 decades orthopaedic surgeons have relied on replacement of the hip joint with an artificial joint to treat patients with pain. In the last decade however, there has been increasing interest in techniques designed not only to treat pain from the hip, but also to attempt to correct the underlying cause of the pain. There is an increasing belief that early treatment and correction of mechanical problems may delay or protect the hip from developing hip arthritis.
These techniques may also delay the need for hip replacement surgery but as yet, this is not able to be proven.
Results presented from the Cornwall Hip Foundation surgeons experience of their initial experience of over 140 cases of surgically treated patients with hip pain are encouraging and as techniques of diagnosis and surgery improve, it is likely that the results will improve also.
This site is designed to provide information to patients and medical professionals with an interest in diseases and treatments for the painful adult hip.
While the focus is predominantly on hip disease, the surgical team offer treatment of other orthopaedic conditions and this information is also included on this site for access by current or prospective patients.
We hope you find the site useful.
