March 19th, 2010. THE FBI FAILS AGAIN WITH DATA SYSTEM OVERHAUL
In TRIPLE CROSS Peter Lance reported on the multi-year failure of the FBI to replace its “paper driven” data collection system with virtual case files so that agents could connect the dots in terrorism investigations.. See EXCERPT on the failure of “Trilogy.” A new updated system was supposed to be deployed this year but today, after the Bureau has spent 100‘s of millions, the New York Times reports additional delays: NYT
The Senate should question James Comey Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) wrote to FBI Director Mueller calling the latest delay a “red flag,” because the Bureau has ‘failed so many times before.” Maybe they should be putting the fire to the feet of JAMES COMEY who was Deputy A.G. during Bush 43 and ran day to day operations at a time when the budget for the FBI’s “Trilogy” virtual case file system ballooned from $380 to $626 million. In 2005 the final phase of “Trilogy” was scrapped and the Bureau put out bids for a new system. Comey became General Counsel to Lockheed-Martin in August, 2005 and by March, 2006 Lockheed landed a $305 million contract for “Sentinel,” the Bureau’s new attempt to overhaul its paper driven system. With the the latest delay reportedly costing another $30 million maybe Grassley should haul Comey up to The Hill to find out why his company’s system still isn’t operational.
