Nancy J. Ori, has over 30 years experience as a professional photographer, as well as being a widely exhibited fine art photographer. Founder and Director of the NJ Photography Forum, the Digital Arts Group and the New Jersey Heritage Workshops, she has also become an experienced teacher through years of affiliation with the Ansel Adams Workshop in California, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the Summit Area Community Schools, Peters Valley Craft Education Center, Somerset Art Association, Morris Museum, Newark Museum, Liberty Hall Museum, Frelinghuysen Arboretum and the Watchung Adult School.

Cape May Workshops

April 24-27 Natural Light with Nancy Ori. Explore lighting in the natural world as a form of creative expression. Spring gardens, seascapes, & architecture will be shot at different times to reveal the colors of light in the natural areas in & around Cape May. Discussions: camera controls, use of lighting, color and cropping for composition, impact & mood, & seeing photographically. Tap into the expertise of a veteran shooter. All levels, film or digital, begins April 24th at 9:30AM, ends April 27th at noon. $395.
April 28-May 2 Cape May Masters Photography Workshop with Chip Forelli. Intermediate/advanced with lots of one-on-one time. Day shoots in town & along shoreline, discussions, critiques. Bring laptops for critique session of digital images created during the workshop, including demos of PhotoShop® techniques and workflow on your images. Exciting, standing-room-only evening sessions with Ori & Forelli. Begins April 28th May 2nd at noon. $450.
May 2-5 Better Digital Images: In-Camera & with Photoshop with Branch Watkins and Nancy Ori. Discover beautiful landscape & architectural subjects around the Cape May area. Learn basics of manipulating images in Photoshop or other easier programs so you end up with a new portfolio of fantastic images. Ori will teach the shooting portion with insights into 20 years of experience in shooting in the area. Watkins will follow up with one-on-one tips for you on how to manipulate your images. Beginner to Intermediate. Begins May 2 at 2pm with wine & cheese reception and ends May 5 at noon. $295
May 2-5 Wet Plate Collodion Imagery with Francesco Mastalia Join the fun & go back in time to create unique one-of-a-kind images. All the equipment and materials will be provided and are included in the fee. Discussions on portraiture, lighting & process from a master photographer. Limited enrollment. All levels. May 5-8 Photographing People and Places with Harvey Stein. Insights into photographing people, the landscapes and architecture through location shoots, in depth discussions, slide presentations, portfolio reviews. Evening presentations by Stein & Ori and critiques of work produced during the workshop. All levels. Begins 5/5 at 2pm with wine reception and ends 5/8 at 5PM. $350.
Painting and Drawing
April 24-27 Painting in Watercolor with Mindy Lighthipe. Create rough sketches & color swatches for finished paintings, collect digital reference photos. Learn a variety of techniques including Pan Pastel application to watercolor. Discussions, demonstrations & one-on-one critiques, tailored to your needs. Easy paced for all levels. Begins 4/24 at 9:30am with wine & cheese, ends 4/27 at noon. $395 plus $15 materials fee.
April 28-May2 Old Master Landscape Painting for the 21st Century Artist with Charlie Churchill. Beg. to intermediate. May work in oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, or color pencil. Designed for artists who wish to learn old master techniques done in new ways. Achieve a “studio” look on location & finish indoors; integrate “modern” colors into a traditional palette; translate color in lights and darks; blend edges; use of colored grounds & complimentary colors; layers; history of landscape painting; content vs. technique; how to think like an Old Master and much more. May 2-5 Torn Paper Collage with Natural Materials & Photos with Kat Block Collages will be composed of various ripped papers & additional materials collected during sessions held at the beach. Use the environments of Cape May to inspire your art & make photographs to incorporate into your work. Discuss & respond to composition, color, movement, texture, & the elements of design. Lots of one-on-one. All levels. Begins 5/2 at 2pm with wine reception, ends 2/5 at noon. $295
May 5-8 Oil Painting in the Landscape with Gerry Heydt. Includes location demos, lots of one-on-one instruction, daily critiques & practical information on equipment & procedures to optimize the outdoor painting experience. Emphasis on how to translate the essence of a landscape by observation & a structured approach: simplify & block in the drawing & color values, add important details. Begins Wed, May 5, 2pm with wine & cheese reception & ends on Sat, May 8, 5PM. All levels. $350.
