it seems these plants can hardy eak out a living on this heavy clay soil, especially with the hot dry spell we had late June and early July.  It is quite remarkable that even the black eyed susans are blooming later at my place than any I see at other’s homes and gardens, just as the trees in spring and the way the morning comes in later :)
