Appalachian Rain Mini Rex
Appalachian Rain Mini Rex

I started my herd of Mini Rex with PJ’s Many and GC Odessa. I have had great luck selling these adorable little bunnies as pets. And my daughter Na’Ua not only helps with feeding and handling, but she is a great sales rep and has sold more than I have by double!! She bought her first acoustic piano on Mini Rex sales at the Charleston Capital Flea Market. It’s just amazing to watch a three year old sell five rabbits in an hour! But then she turns around and says, Where are my bunnies?
Teaching her these aspects of life makes me love rabbits even more than I do for their own merit, which is already tremendous.
PJ’s Many has won our hearts and is a forever bunny; he is handled almost daily by the baby and taken to the “gate” to run and eat clover and violets. He is a beautiful rabbit and typical, I think, of the breed and it’s disposition.
Odessa, is anything but typical, being regal in my mind. I like to call her Queen Odessa, and she loves breeding and she loves her kits so much. She isn’t overly protective after they are out of the nest box, but before that, it’s a hands off situation. She does stay concerned and checks over each bunny as it is returned, and seems also to count them and ask for the last one, like a rabbit will ask for food or water. She is very very smart, it seems, but doesn’t chew or box or get obnoxious in her boredom.
I added Rosa from Erin Morgan when I saw her at a show, and she is developing very nicely, and is also friendly and has started producing kits for us.
Mini Rex are great, they don’t eat very much and they don’t take much space; they are very plush to touch and are quick to tame and I think they are smart and friendly, by nature. The standard Rex is used for pelts and meat and there is a rabbit breeder near Huntington who does raise Standard Rex for meat, although he was still not using the pelts when I met him at the Kanawha County Sustainable Fair spring 2010. I sell my Mini Rex for pets and for show, and if you are interested in meat rabbits, I will do my best to help you with a connection.
