what happened??
well the pedigrees have all the answers-- there is light grey and steel grey in the mother’s pedigree.
I’ve done some more research on this and it seems that the Steel allele is responsible due to linked genes, this phenotype with black coat and slate eyes, or marbled blue eyes, or other than brown eyes.
The Standards of Perfection lists that the Black Flemish have brown eyes and deviation is a disqualification on the table, but anyone who wants to breed black, steel and light grey would at least sometimes be seeing this combination

“Please note that if you use your blacks for blues, they should not be used with light grays, and light grays should not be crossed into the blacks if you intend to use them with blues. When Blues and light Grays share ancestors, it messes up the colors. (Although my whites carry light gray and can be crossed with them.)”--- Cathy Caracciolo
