Rory Dyer
During the Rockshop at the Orpheus Center we met Rory Dyer a talented
songwriter and peer educator.
He was a participant during our work there and has since left. Rory works with
variety of organizations in the arts and we hope to bring him into the Musical
Moves team as a artist/ peer educator.
Paul, Jim, Rockshop and After
I met Paul and Jim while living at The Orpheus Centre when they came as co-tutors on Herbie Flowers' "Rockshop". I first saw them play together doing various songs during an informal jam session at the start of a course (I attended 4 in all). I was impressed by the fact that although Paul spoke and could sing in the lower register he could also sing effectively in the higher, transforming his voice which really got the audiences attention. I also recall Jim’s accurate guitar playing and was pleased to later perform with him at a gig in Hastings.
They bought a professional feel to the courses. They knew when to take artistic back and front seats while working spontaneously with students both individually and in groups, letting them lead while still adding suggestions to advance the melody and/or lyrics and playing along on guitar.
I much enjoy Rock ‘n’ Roll music and when I lived at Orpheus I felt this was not explored often enough or in enough detail within the other courses or other artistic output of the centre (most other music was either ballad-like or often comical).
Consequently, it was a breath of fresh air for me when working with Paul, Jim and others whilst being impressed with their efficient but relaxed styles as tutors and I am much looking forward to continuing this with our new venture.

Musical Moves have kept in contact with Rory over the past 2 years looking at ways to involve him n the delivery of workshops as a peer educator and a advisor on enabling and positive support guidance. Rory would like to first be a participant on a workshop, he is a keen songwriter and performer, and is anxious to collaborate on his new songs. Unfortunately the funding process has been protracted and we are still actively seeking support to deliver a workshop that meets his needs.
