Returned from visiting Collings Foundation Well I got back from my trip to Savannah, GA (the 7th of November). Everything went just as planned, sort of. First I flew into Columbia, SC and met up with the Collings Foundation. They had the P-51, B-17 and B-24 on display. I pulled my camera out for a bit and started shooting. However, I found out from the crew that the planes might not be taking off for Savannah. If that didn’t happen I wouldn’t have a place to stay that night. All my arrangements were made in Savannah for hotel and car. They kept saying the weather was bad and it was a slim chance to get the planes out. But literally 30 minutes later I was documenting the inside of the B-17 and heard cargo being thrown in. The crew seemed to be rushing and I asked what was going on. “We are cleared to take the B-17, if you want to go to Savannah then you might want to jump aboard” one of the crew guys said. I had wanted to take a ride in the B-24 but if I didn’t take the B-17 I might not have a place to sleep that night! I jumped aboard and off we went. The ride was loud and bumpy! I video taped almost the entire hour ride. We landed with no problems and would you know - the B-24 was able to slip in a few hours later along with the P-51.
